OVERVIEW
Company specific research
Forensic Asia writes independent research on listed Asian companies principally for the fund management community. We take a highly forensic accounting approach which involves scrutinizing company financials to evaluate the quality of earnings (persistence and sustainability), entailing an analysis of the level of accruals involved in generating earnings. This approach is insightful in indentifying stocks that are likely to underperform due to low quality earnings or outperform due to high quality earnings. We use this approach alongside traditional but equally important analytical tools such as company visits, regular management contact and detailed modelling.
Forensic Asia database
Forensic Asia has developed a database which ascribes a simple numerical score of one ‐to‐ten to describe the financial health of a company. This database is useful as a reference point for company specific research but data can also be aggregated to study certain samples of companies such as a portfolio of stocks, sector, country or index over almost any predetermined time period.
Truly independent
Forensic Asia runs a subscription based business model, charging an annual fee (prices available upon request). We believe that a subscription based model removes the recommendation bias that comes with commission based models. We have no corporate finance affiliations or future aspirations. We wish to tell the truth about companies as we see it, warts and all. Forensic Asia’s sister company is Asianomics, run by Dr Jim Walker.
A regulated activity
Forensic Asia is regulated by Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (www.sfc.hk) receiving a Type 4 licence, Advising on Securities, in July 2010.
